Since June 2007, you are now permitted to produce up to 2500 litres of bio – diesel annually without having to pay ANY duty or VAT. 2500 litres is enough fuel to run 2 vehicles a year.
Section 2AA of The Hydrocarbon Oil Duties Act 1979 (HODA) describes biodiesel as a diesel quality liquid fuel that is produced from waste cooking/vegetable oil. Compared to mineral diesel, biodiesel is environmental friendly with around 80% lower CO2 emissions, is biodegradable, non toxic, has higher engine lubricating properties than mineral diesel and importantly is a very cost effective fuel.
